Our Bodies, Our Voices- Zine-making program

January 23, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until April 2, 2020

The Cyborg Circus Project is proud to present our next community arts program: Our Bodies, Our Voices.

Our Bodies, Our Voices is a zine-making program exclusively for disabled youth (including Deaf, chronically ill, neuro-diverse, mad and blind/low-vision folks, learning disabilities, mental health disabilities and any folks who identify with disability and are currently undiagnosed ) who also identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, Two Spirit or questioning their gender identity.

Participants will meet weekly at Artscape Weston Common (34 John Street) near Weston Road and Lawrence avenue and work with Guest Artist, Aus Bahadur, to develop and launch a zine based out of our experiences as trans disabled youth. We will spend the first five-six weeks developing the content for the zine, and the last 4-5 weeks working on layout as well as additional accessibility features. We aim to launch a fully accessible zine in April which has a print and online version as well as a podcast which will act as the audio-book of the zine.

No prior experience with zines is necessary, just a willingness to learn more about them.

Artscape Weston Common is wheelchair accessible with a door opener, and features has both gendered and universal accessible washroom options. The closest accessible major transportation routes are the 52 Lawrence West, and 89 Weston Road busses as well as the UP Express/Go Transit Weston Station.

Honoraria provided for all involved in the program.

A meal and snacks according to dietary restrictions and financial support for transportation will be provided at all meetings

ASL, personal support workers, and sighted guide support will be provided. Additional accommodation specifics will be clarified with participants during the registration process.
